Doubt this can be counted as one, given it was first set up and (partially) spoilered back in Chapter 2 – plus Hadalen’s remark in vein of “I’m too weak to stop him” in later chapter, et cetera.
A plethora of possible in-lore explanations to this one.
For example
* Vitrin magic wipes memories of one who uses it, but Baelin is the Vitrin magic, and as a result can maintain his memories intact; as a possibility – he also gets to keep all the wiped memories of others, regardless of his own wish – quite a reason to went slightly off track;
* This is Baelin’s first appearance, and world is still in its first incarnation: many things can happen in between this flashback and the current timestamp – like the Vitrin Core being damaged in the impending conflict, or due to deteriorating slowly over time of ages and yugas of the world;
* I’ll refer you to the documents on SCP-3930 and PATTERN SCREAMER tag in general on this point;
*Are you sure that this is even Baelin Vitrin?
I mean, if something walks like a duck; quacks like a duck; and (skins people alive, trapping them in the Nether to bring them neverending agony and eternal suffering while its insane cultists proclaim such doings as a sign of eternal love and compassion) like a duck – that’s surely a duck, isn’t it?
Should note that everything about Vitrin magic in the lore corner is theoretical, since there are no Vitrin mages in the current age’s recorded history.
Always thought that being the result of anyone trying to use Vitrin discipline vanishing in the flash of blinding light, being erased from reality – or irreversibly transformed into the being of pure abstraction, doomed to forever dwell as a sentient concept in Coroz as a variant.
It is hard, after all, to gain some practical knowledge when all you have is a bunch of (somewhat) incoherent ramblings of a person mad enough to follow instructions of a previous madman on practical applications of highly dubious theory on reigning in the force mere presence of which erases the one trying to contact it from the world.
Kinda like a memetic version of light grenade from MDSW.
Feretta I just found the perfect music for your intros to space given.

“I’m sorry, Al. I can’t let you do that.”
His memory wan’t wiped? The Lore Corner says that white (Vitrin) magic wipes memories.
